Transportation for America Coalition

We need to get America moving again

Transportation for America is made up of a growing and diverse coalition from diverse interests: Real estate, housing, environmental, public health, urban planning, transportation and equitable development. The coalition is focused on creating a national transportation program that will take America into the 21st century by modernizing our infrastructure and building healthy communities where all people can live, work and play.

PVACR benefits from the extensive educational resources on transportation that the coalition provides to partners and the public. We also use T4America's online action tools to help members easily send policymakers timely messages of support on pressing transportation issues.

Recent PVACR Activity with Transportation for America

03-20-2009 - Signed on to letter authored by Transportation for America urging support for proposed national CLEAN-TEA legislation (Clean Low-Emission Affordable New Transportation Efficiency Act). The proposal would direct money raised through global warming legislation to clean transportation investments -- like public transportation and passenger rail, affordable neighborhoods around transit stops, and neighborhood improvements that increase safety for cyclists and pedestrians.

02-05-2009 – Legislative action to protect mass transit funding in the Senate stimulus bill. Volunteers sent emails, including an automated message provided by Transportation for America, and made phone calls to their U.S. senators.

01-27 & 1-28-2009 – Legislative actions to support increasing funding for public transit in H.R. 1 – The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

01-14-2009 – At PVACR General Meeting, voted to partner with Transportation for America to help the group influence national policy that affects our regional transportation policies, including the funding of public transit in the federal stimulus bill.
